GREENSBORO, N.C. – Microsoft Corp. executive Robert L. McDowell will discuss “The Challenge of Realizing a Return on Your IT Investment” Wednesday, April 22.
The 4 p.m. lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Bryan Building, Room 160.
McDowell joined Microsoft in 1990 and has held many executive-level positions at the company, including vice president for enterprise business relationships and vice president of worldwide services. Since 2002, he has served as the vice president for information worker business value at Microsoft.
McDowell is the author of “Driving Digital” and “In Search of Business Value: Ensuring a Return on Your Technology Investment.” He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Virginia Military Institute and a master’s degree in business administration from Boston University.
McDowell and his wife, 1968 UNCG graduate Lissa Shelley McDowell, gave the university a $3.85 million gift in 2007 through The Students First Campaign. A substantial portion of the gift was used to establish the McDowell Research Center for Global IT Management in the Bryan School of Business and Economics. The center’s mission is to support and stimulate the application of information technology in organizations worldwide, with an emphasis on the Piedmont Triad region. McDowell serves as chairman of the center’s Advisory Board.
“We are so pleased to have one of our founding Advisory Board members as part of the MRC (McDowell Research Center) Lecture Series,” said Dr. Prashant Palvia, director of the center. “As an author and a vice president of Microsoft, he has a wealth of knowledge on IT management. This lecture focuses on your IT investment which is a particularly timely topic.”
