Dr. Ruth King

GREENSBORO, NC –Dr. Ruth King, an associate professor of information systems and operations management, has received a 2008 Boeing Welliver Faculty Fellowship.

King is one of only nine university professors nationwide who were honored with the prestigious award by Boeing. The fellowship, which runs from June to August, matches faculty with mentors from Boeing. King teaches in the Bryan School.

“I’m very excited for this opportunity,” said King. “I think it will be a great benefit to both my UNCG students and my research endeavors. I’m grateful to Boeing for opening their doors and giving me this amazing chance to interact with their executives and professionals through the Welliver program.”

King’s areas of research include online consumer privacy, security and purchasing behaviors; innovative uses of information technology in developing countries, and enterprise crisis management. She received a PhD in information systems from the University of Texas at Austin and joined the UNCG faculty in 2005.

The Boeing Welliver Fellowship is designed for young faculty members. The approach is to expose a small number of professors to key elements of the business realities of the industrial workplace by enabling them to “look over the shoulder” of working professionals. It also provides faculty with a better understanding of the practical industry applications of their areas of academic expertise. The fellowship is open to academics from the fields of engineering, information technology, manufacturing and business.

The Bryan School is the largest of UNCG’s six professional schools with 450 graduate students and 2,100 undergraduates. It is accredited by AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and is among the top 10 percent of business schools nationwide that have earned accreditation at the undergraduate and graduate levels in both business and accounting.
