GREENSBORO, N.C. – Fergle D’Aubeterre, a doctoral student in information systems and operations management (ISOM) in the Bryan School, has won the Vinton G. Cerf Award.
The award is given annually to the best student-authored paper in information systems design. It was presented at the Third International Conference on Design Science Research in Information Systems and Technology held in Atlanta May 9.
D’Aubeterre’s paper, “Secure Activity Resource Coordination: A Method to Design Secure Business Process,” was co-authored by Drs. Rahul Singh and Lakshmi Iyer, associate professors of ISOM at UNCG who are D’Aubeterre’s doctoral co-advisors. The results of the research will help business analysts incorporate security as a functional requirement in the analysis and modeling of business processes.
D’Aubeterre, who was runner-up for the Cerf award in 2007, received a $500 award as the first place finisher.
“This award is not only an honor for Fergle, but also an inspiration for other doctoral students,” said Iyer. “Rahul and I were delighted to collaborate with him on this important paper.”
Widely known as a "Father of the Internet," Vinton G. Cerf is the co-designer of the TCP/IP protocols and the architecture of the Internet. In 1997, President Clinton presented the U.S. National Medal of Technology to Cerf and his partner, Robert E. Kahn, for founding and developing the Internet.
The PhD in Information Systems at UNCG is an innovative, research oriented doctoral program designed to prepare students primarily for careers as members of faculty in academic information systems units and secondarily as professionals in non-academic research and professional organizations.
