GREENSBORO, NC – The search for UNCG’s next chancellor is almost at an end.

President Erskine Bowles will present his finalist selection to the University of North Carolina Board of Governors at noon Thursday, June 12, in Chapel Hill. The election of the new chancellor is the only action item on the board’s agenda.

The announcement will be posted on the UNCG web site. The chancellor-elect will come to campus Thursday afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. reception to meet the UNCG community.

Bowles gave the committee its charge at its first organizational meeting on Jan. 4. He stated, “This is by far the most important job you will do for this institution, bar none. It will be important not only for UNCG, but for the Triad.”

Among the characteristics Bowles said the committee should seek in its candidates are leadership, administrative and fundraising abilities; a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education as well as to the campus research component; passion; people skills; and a desire to be a partner within the UNC system and with N.C. A&T Chancellor Stanley F. Battle.

Stephen C. Hassenfelt, who is chair of the UNCG Board of Trustees, chaired the search committee. The search began less than a month after Chancellor Patricia A. Sullivan announced her plans to retire on July 31.
