GREENSBORO, NC – Dr. Dianne Welsh, an internationally recognized scholar in entrepreneurship, has joined the Bryan School of Business and Economics as the Charles A. Hayes Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship. She is to begin in the fall semester.

Welsh comes to UNCG from the University of Tampa where she was the James W. Walter Distinguished Chair of Entrepreneurship and director of the Florida Entrepreneur and Family Business Center.

“Professor Welsh brings to us a wealth of experience in developing and leading internationally recognized entrepreneurship programs,” said Dr. James K. Weeks, dean of the Bryan School.

From 2000-2004, Welsh was the academic director of the Muldoon Center for Entrepreneurship at John Carroll University in Cleveland while fostering partnerships with local business and outreach efforts. She also is the owner of Family Business First International, a strategic planning firm specializing in entrepreneurial leadership and employee reward systems.

Welsh’s numerous awards include the Distinguished Service Award from the National Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers, the Distinguished Educator Award from the U.S. Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship and the Centurytel Foundation Faculty Achievement Award from Eastern Washington University. She was a trustee at the U.S. Air Force Academy from 1997-2000.

Welsh is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Franchising Research: An International Journal, the first journal on franchising. She is the co-editor of comprehensive volumes on global franchising, including two volumes on international franchising in emerging markets and two on industrialized markets.

Welsh earned a PhD in administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

The Bryan School is the largest of UNCG’s six professional schools with 450 graduate students and 2,400 undergraduates. It is accredited by AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and is among the top 10 percent of business schools nationwide that have earned accreditation at the undergraduate and graduate levels in both business and accounting.
