GREENSBORO — Dr. Mary Hummel, director of housing and residence life, has won two statewide honors.
Hummel, who came to UNCG three years ago, received the North Carolina Housing Officers’ 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award. She also received the North Carolina College Personnel Association’s 2008 Outstanding Professional Contribution Award.
During her tenure at UNCG, she is most proud of mentoring other professionals. “I like helping people get opportunities to advance their contributions,” she said. “I enjoy supporting activities which provide professional development for staff.”
Hummel was nominated for both awards by Brad Johnson, senior assistant director for residence life.
“Having only been in North Carolina a very short time, Mary has already made an impact,” Johnson wrote in his nominating letter. “I can attest to the devotion, passion and enthusiasm that she brings not only to our department, but also to our division, university, and the North Carolina Housing system overall.”
Hummel served as associate director of housing and director of residence education at the University of Michigan from 1997-2005.
