GREENSBORO, NC – UNCG will hold commencement exercises Thursday, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m. in the Greensboro Coliseum, with Dr. Roberto Campo, a professor of Romance Languages, as speaker.
Last spring, Campo received the Alumni Teaching Excellence Award from UNCG. A faculty member who came to UNCG in 1989, he teaches French and is a specialist in Renaissance literature. He holds master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. His address will be titled "Gen Ed for the Global Galette.”
UNCG Chancellor Patricia A. Sullivan will welcome the graduates and their families, and will play a central role in the ceremony. Approximately 940 students are candidates to complete their degrees during the semester. The 501 graduates who completed degrees in August can also participate in the December ceremony.
In addition to Sullivan and Campo, other participants will include Provost David H. Perrin; Kathryn Crowe, chair of the Faculty Senate; Stephen Hassenfelt, chair of the UNCG Board of Trustees; R. Steve Bowden, representing UNC Board of Governors; Betsy Ervin ‘85, president of the UNCG Alumni Association; Dr. James Petersen, dean of the Graduate School; and Natalie Hurst, who will be the speaker for the December graduating class.
Also taking part in the ceremonies will be UNCG’s academic deans; Dr. Terry Nile, who is faculty marshal and mace bearer; and Meredith Andrews, chief marshal. At the conclusion, the University Bell will be rung by J. Patrick Tutwiler of the December class and Dr. Dorothy Mason, an alumna of the Class of 1957. The Commencement Brass and Chorus will provide music.
