CENTe-R Project Wins Telly

By , University Relations

Telly Award

The Telly Award for video and film production.

The CENTe-R project has won a Telly Award.

CENTe-R (Collaborative Early Intervention National Training e-Resource), a national project providing web-based materials for instructors preparing graduate-level professionals to serve families of infants and toddlers with hearing loss, won a 2006 Bronze Telly for a video produced with Tom Lipscomb Productions.

The Telly honors outstanding TV programs as well as the finest video and film productions.

“Instilling Independence” is the six-minute award-winning video showcasing a mother’s dreams for her daughter who has multiple health and communication challenges. The video depicts the family’s efforts, the child’s achievements and the professionals’ support.

The video is one of 48 created as multi-media components of CENTe-R’s online modules in early intervention and hearing loss for graduate faculty to embed in their courses. The videos present actual families with children with hearing loss and the professionals on their team.

This year’s Telly Awards boasted 13,379 entries from all 50 states and around the world. Entries do not compete against each other but are judged against a high standard of merit. This year’s winners include companies, agencies and organizations of all sizes, from large multinational media companies to small ad agencies and local production houses.

CENTe-R is a five-year Office of Special Education Programs grant for personnel preparation in higher education. Dr. Mary V. Compton, Dr. Judith Niemeyer and Dr. Edgar Shroyer from the Special Education Services Department of UNCG’s School of Education are the principal investigators. Over 125 universities from across the nation have utilized these modules for classes of pre-service learners in multiple fields.

Tom Lipscomb Productions is a local company owned by a 2003 UNCG Broadcasting and Cinema MFA graduate. He specializes in documentary, narrative and educational video production.
