Sophomore acting students perform eight original 10-minute plays Nov. 30-Dec. 3.

The 10th annual “Flannel Shorts” – eight 10-minute plays written by alumni and student playwrights – will run Nov. 30-Dec. 3 in Brown Building Theatre. Eleven sophomore actors will perform the plays.

The production provides writers an opportunity to see their work staged and actors an opportunity to create new roles. The eclectic collection includes moments of inspiration, sadness, silliness, anguish and passion, according to artistic director Jim Wren, who is assisted by 3rd year MFA actor Joe Morrissey.

Performances will be in Brown Building Theatre at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, and 8 p.m. Dec. 2 and 3. The plays are not appropriate for children.

The playwrights are alumni Michael Ferrell, Kim Moore, Erin Bone, Jamie Dunn, and Jamie Horan and students Bob Beshere, Amy da Luz and Charlotte Umstead. The actors are Jon Douglas, Renee Walek, Debrita Callaway, Janice Picconi, Erica Honeycutt, Marvin Riggins, Tim Boissey, Paige Berry, Brittany Hawkins, Ambien Mitchell and James Huneycutt.

Tickets cost $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and $5 for UNCG students. They may be purchased in person at the University Box Office between noon and 5 p.m. weekdays and at the theatre beginning one hour before curtain time. They may be purchased from the box office by calling 336-334-4849 or following a link at the box office web page.

For more information, call the box office or visit the Department of Theatre web site. Free parking for evening and weekend performances is available behind the Weatherspoon Art Museum.

The second half of the UNCG Theatre season begins Feb. 3 with “The Foreigner” by Larry Shue.
