Despite its public university status, UNCG is heavily dependent on private sources for scholarships, professorships, specialized equipment, and academic program enrichment. Gifts from alumni, friends, foundations, businesses, and corporations fill the gap, adding depth and excitement to the college experience.

Thanks for Your Support

Luther Hodges, Jr,. and Betsy Hodges Barnard, children of former North Carolina Governor Luther Hodges, have pledged the largest gift ever to the University's Jackson Library. The $1 million pledge will endow Special Collections and University Archives in honor of their mother, Martha Blakeney Hodges, Class of 1918. The former First Lady was an advocate for literacy throughout the state and the first chairperson of the UNCG Friends of the Library.

Among a large gathering to celebrate the dedication of the Martha Blakeney Hodges Special Collections and University Archives on May 18, 2004, were (left to right), Cheray (Mrs. Luther Hodges, Jr.) Hodges, Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Patti Stewart, Donald and Betsy Hodges Bernard, and Luther Hodges, Jr.
